This etude is taken from „Leonard Schulz-The Collected Guitar Studies". The subject of this Etude is carrying the melody in the middle voice played by the index finger.

Leonard Schulz (1814-1860) was born in Vienna. He was a Wunderkind and gave his first concert at the age of eight. Later he moved to London. He was considered as one of the great players of the Post-Giuliani Era like Coste, Zani de Ferranti, Regondi and Mertz.

The Etudes op40 were newly edited 2011 by Eric Stenstadvold, Chanterelle Verlag, ECH 432. I think, they soon will take their place as „indispensable" because of their technical and musical originality.
