A stick clip is a useful tool for any sport climber to have. It allows you to clip the first bolt of your route from the ground, giving you an extra sense of security when you start your climb. Watch to learn how to make your own stick clip using materials you can usually find at the crag.

Thanks for the video! I was looking to buy a trango beta stick or something similar (and cheaper). I'm thinking I'll use this more for when I find myself on a route that is harder than I expected it to be, as a way to kind of aid-climb my way to the top so I don't have to leave any gear behind and/or can practice on a top-rope. After I saw this video it gave me the idea to DIY something similar, but more permanent. I cut out a tiny woodblock to use in place of the rock, drilled a small hole in it, fed some tweed yarn through it, tied the tweed yarn into a loop, clipped that loop onto a tiny keychain carabiner, and clipped that through the loop at the end of the dogbone of the quickdraw (where one of the open-gate biners goes through). From there I will tape the quickdraw with the newly attached woodblock to the end of a telescopic pole (or else some rigid pole that's long enough but not too long to comfortably climb with on my harness). It will work exactly the same way as shown in the video, but when I clip it, the woodblock will still be attached to the quickdraw after dislodging from the gate, so I can reuse it mid-route.
I'm kind of a pansy when it comes to falling, so this will help me cheese my way to the top of difficult routes, set up a top-rope, and practice the route before attempting a real free lead climb.
Also, the beta sticks are mad expensive, so thanks to your video and the resulting DIY inspiration, I saved a bunch of money; thanks a lot!
