The fact that they immediately passed a law saying the survivors can't sue the province for the cyclist deaths in the future is pretty much an admission of guilt.

The older I get, the more I realize how badly the dumbest and most vindictive people in society hold us back.

I never comment but I feel like I had to say this feels like such a slap in the face. My dad got killed this year on his bike by a car in Toronto. Of course there wasn’t a protected bicycle lane. How is it that a “20 second travel time decrease” takes precedence over my dad’s life? I just do not understand.

Ford grew up in a wealthy part of Etobicoke, where kids not only got a license at 16, but their own cars. He doesn't know anything else.

How is it even legal for a government to pass legislation that says "oh by the way you can't sue us over an injury caused by this legislation"

Conservatives "we don't like big government intrusion"
Also conservatives "we are going to mandate what people can do in their own cities"

What even is the point of having a dense city center when everyone is just driving cars?

Drivers would rather have three lanes that move at 10mph rather than one lane that travels at 30mph. Amazing

I actually texted Doug Ford about this issue a few weeks back (he has a public number that he responds to sometimes). He called me the next morning and we discussed it for 10 minutes or so. Whilst it was cool that he called me to talk about it, he clearly didn't listen to anything I had to say unfortunately. He actually even asked me for alternative solutions to removing the bike lanes, which I gave him and he then promptly ignored.

I have a degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Transportation (and I happen to work for the MTO...) but what's it all worth if the people in charge will just make up their own solutions? I have family members that agree with Doug over me on this issue, it's kind of crazy.

Just one more car lane, bro. All I need is one more lane for privately owned vehicles and a few more parking meters and I swear I can fix everything.

“Does anyone believe removing bike lanes will have a meaningful impact on traffic?” Yes, I do. It will make it worse.

Why does a single person have as much power as is described in this video? I'm sorry, but what I'm hearing here doesn't sound like a modern democratic institution with a proper separation of powers. This problem is larger than just the policies discussed here.

In Switzerland we just voted against a federal project to expand highways in the most congested places

I'm not a citizen of Ontario, but, in a 40 minutes video, you make me hate the provincial government there... this Ford guy is despicable.

As a Torontonian who uses the Bloor bike lanes often, THANK YOU for making this.

This is absolutely absurd legislation especially when he has to BAN LAWSUITS against his party since he KNOWS people WILL die from this.

Live in Toronto and don't like where our province is going? VOTE HIM OUT when we get a likely early election

28:44 this is the stuff i never understood about infrastructure costs. Its always too expensive to make subways or rail tunnel, but ploughing through mountains for highways and roads has always got room in the budget

I'm starting to think that there is no solution to car traffic except viable alternatives to driving.

Thank you for covering this. It is absolutely mind blowing to see the province actively sabotage the city's progress and throw Torontonians under the bus (literally) to scapegoat for their ineffective (and corrupt) policies.

I live in Toronto. Doug Ford is the worst. He's premier of the entire province but has a vendetta against Toronto and disproportionately passes laws that directly and negatively affect Toronto.

*To head off anyone that wants to defend Ford, he passed legislation that cut the size of Toronto city council by half just before an election citing efficiency. He said he would impose the same measure on other cities too as justification. To date, no other cities have had the size of their councils reduced.*

Speaking of how expensive it is to take the rail, my roommate has an EV and he loves it, but it doesn't have the range to take him home for the holidays so he usually has to find other transportation. This year he was looking at Amtrak which will get him about an hour from home - and the tickets were somehow more expensive THAN A FLIGHT.
