In the previous meetups, we discussed a range of open-source toolings, new & exotic features released by LocalStack, and more! In this community event, we will go deep down into our roots by discussing AWS-specific features that can help you succeed as a cloud developer. This community event will feature two talks from our Engineering Team, and they will talk about how you can get started with Lambda & IAM on LocalStack and drive your adoption with LocalStack's cloud emulation capabilities.

1. Developing Lambda Functions with LocalStack by Joel Scheuner

Joel will demonstrate how to develop AWS Lambda functions with LocalStack, accelerate your feedback cycle with hot reloading, and fix issues faster with remote debugging.

The session starts with a quick primer into AWS Lambda by deploying and invoking a Lambda function using LocalStack. Joel will then explore LocalStack Lambda tools such as hot reloading, transparent endpoint injection, and remote debugging. Joel will highlight new Lambda features in LocalStack v2, such as concurrency, layers, and multi-architecture support. Finally, we will look behind the scenes at how Lambda works in LocalStack.

By the end of this presentation, you will know how to get started with Lambda on LocalStack and utilize LocalStack Lambda tools such as hot reloading and debugging.

2. Testing IAM configurations with LocalStack by Viren Nadkarni

Viren will showcase how you can test your IAM configurations locally in cross-account setups and how LocalStack helps you test your security policies and create an environment that resembles real AWS.

The session would start with a quick introduction to IAM and how LocalStack emulates the IAM APIs and the security enforcement feature. Viren will then explore the cross-account setup in LocalStack, and present the IAM policy enforcement using a sample application. Viren will also highlight new IAM features such as Explainable IAM, Soft Mode, and more, and we will also look behind the scenes at how LocalStack emulates IAM.

By the end of this presentation, you will know how to get started with IAM on LocalStack and how to leverage it to test your policies and harden your cloud security configurations.
