We FINALLY found our donation car! After a couple months of searching for the right car, we successfully found and bought the car to give to a family in need. But we do have a major concern about being taken advantage of.

Don’t try to hold on to something you’re wanting to let go of.

Vet the family, due diligence, whatever you need to do, make peace with your research, gift the car and be done with it.

Every time I helped someone I got disappointed… At the end of the day you can only trust yourself. It is probably one of the hardest but greatest life lesson I have learnt.

Mike the Blessing in this is your heart to give a family a gift and once you do this let everything go. God knows your heart and that is all that matters. You guys will feel complete when you do. Who knows that family may need a medical procedure or even house payment to putting food on table. It is not ours to judge but let God have control. God Bless you two.

You and Mrs. Chevy Dude have to be the nicest people. To give away a car to someone in need.

Give it away in good faith if they decide to sell it That's something they have to answer to to the high mighty...
Your heart is clear and you did the right thing
Give with a open heart can't control what the receiver will do
Blessings always 🙏 ✨️ ✨️ ✨️ ✨️ ✨️

Mike you will need to complete the proper vetting process which it may be going thru a church, social services, friends and family who can vouch for the family in need. You must realize the family in need may not be able to afford vehicle insurance required or pay the taxes on the "gifted" vehicle to the DMV either. Once the vehicle is "gifted" it is there's to do what they wish with. Maybe one way to make sure the "gifted family" keeps the vehicle is to offer them free routine maintenance for a year or two thru your shop oil changes, tire rotation, free yearly inspections ect...You should feel blessed and proud to help a family in need. Most appreciate all the assistance you can provide. Keep up the great work you are doing for all.

You and your wife are doing a great thing for a family . It’s your thought and effort you put into it that counts, never be able to totally control what other do . Rest easy knowing your thought and heart were in the right place 👍.

100% agree doing a good deed will attract a lot of scammers and fraudsters. The lien is a protection against that and doesn't hurt a true family in need.

Congratulations, you are totally correct about worrying about someone flipping it. I personally like the lein idea, not sure if that would show on their credit or not. Maybe just a rider on the purchase document that they are not able to sell within X length of time or else they owe X amount to you. Definitely should consult an attorney, because there may be tax implications for the receiver as well if they don't "buy" the automobile rather you just give them it. This situation is why some people "buy" houses from family for $1.00 rather than just receiving it as a gift.

Mike this is truly a gift you are providing. You are doing it for the right reason. Don’t ruin it by putting a lien on it as then it’s now “business”. What if the car is stolen or totaled in an accident and the Insurance company pays you the settlement. Now what? It’s a gift, don’t let the thought of a possible scam ruin it for you.

Consult a lawyer that has and or does deal with these sorts of things and they can help you find the best way to protect yourself and the integrity of your purpose in helping someone out.

Put a lein on the vehicle and make absolutely sure they keep insurance on the vehicle. Car in their name you as the leinholder. Insurance policy has to be inforce when they pick the car up and stays insured or you can take possession of the car. Cover yourself. Car need to be maintained also. Contact drawn by an attorney will help you sleep better at night. Don't want a bitter taste from your first giveaway. This could ruin it down the road for someone who would appreciate a car and be responsible. Good luck.

I think the lien is a good idea. If you can do it for time like 3 to 4 years instead of for money. Then maybe ask the family if and when they ever want to trade it in to come to you first.

Make the car a lease to own or dealer finance deal. UNLIMITED MILES FOR 1 DOLLAR A YEAR. 0% INTREST. Youll have a lean on the car so they cant sell it or borrow against it. If they don't want or need the car they have to bring it back or pay off the lean or loan to resale it. That's what I would do if I were giving it away. If you hold some kind of competition or raffle and they win it, then you need to let it go with no strings attached. So I would be real careful using the win word.

My wife and I have given away 4 cars, only two were legally transferred. I was contacted by the police several years later after they were found on the roadside, blown engines (no Oil). They were probably worth 4-5K each at the time. A lean would protect you from being sued if they didnt have insurance, as well as prevent the car from being flipped.

A 200 300 shopping spree for people in need would be instantly appriciated ..for groceries or gifts for family especially this time of year ..when food cost and items are very expensive for alot of folks struggling..

Looks like a great car Mike! Nice job getting it. Contact an attorney to find out what you can do about them not selling the car for the cash after you give it away.

It's a tough call!
I could see someone turning around and selling the car. They didn't really need and just hung a story on you. I have given family members cars in the past and found that they didn't take care of them or turn around and sold them! You guys are awesome!
Some day when I need a car I'll start watching your inventory and hopefully get to sign the wall !
