2005 Ford Excursion Limited: Regular Car Reviews

The 2005 Ford Excursion Limited is a full-size SUV, and an even bigger pain in the neck. But is it the winner of the Race to the Bottom? Or is it more than meets the eye? Roman goes all-in on the Ford Excursion, from its history to its symbolism, how the SUV is the perfect encapsulation of human nature, and why this was the hardest review in the history of RCR.

The Ranger based SUV was the Ford *_Explorer_*
The F-150 based SUV was the Ford *_Expedition_*
The F-250 based SUV was the Ford *_Excursion_*
Ford then pussed out and we never got the DUALLY F-350 based Ford *_EXPLOSION_*

Remember that time Ford tried outsuburbaning the Suburban?
Yeah, it's this one.

I owned one in the early 2000's. I haven't heard a woman say "it's so big!" since I got rid of it.

Don't forget, the new Cadillac Escalade ESV is the same size as this. Bigger than an H2 Hummer in every way and no one seems to care lol

Getting an overly macho ford ad in the middle of this video was almost poetic lol

I just bought one of these with the v10, this year F-series is easy to work on and get parts for. So essentially you get a F250 with more seats and a built in camper shell. That's what attracted me to it. I can fit 7 of the Midwest's finest corn fed women from my local cracker barrel in there to go to the 4H. Sold.

I remember riding in the back of one of these as a 6 year old during my first trip to the US. It was the biggest vehicle I had ever seen in my life and when I sat down in it I felt I was a different zip code than where my parents were.

Despite my hatred for huge SUVs, I've always had a bit of a fondness for the excursion in that its so absurd that it kind of comes back around to being endearing.

Thanks, Nick, for having me out east! And you’re welcome for the guitar! Use it well!

I actually like the Excursion, it's huge, but not pretentious like modern SUVs.
It's not trying to be something it's not. Not trying to be a sports car or a luxury car.
The Excursion is like the ultimate road trip vehicles.

♫ Can you name the truck with four-wheel-drive, smells like a steak and seats thirty-five. ♫

We once rented one of these with the modular V10 while in New Mexico and we drove it up a very precarious and steep trail to the top of a mesa. That's still one of my favorite memories from my youth.

My mom had one. Traded in her izuzu trooper for it. She called it the beast lmao. She liked it because she could fit her ladders for painting on the inside instead of the roof. The truck had the strangest thing where it would only get 12 mpg, no matter what you doing.

Hey, Roman, as I get older, I realize that we start to become heros, sometimes by accident. At some point, people start to look up to us, sometimes, even people you don’t expect. You start to realize your gift to this world doesn’t have to wait until you’re old and wrinkly, but it can be just you being yourself without remorse and letting people see you.

When you went on that bit about soft speak and the feeling, it translated really well to how it feels to drive one of those things, but you know, it takes a really creative and in tuned mind to come up with something like that.

Okay, to get to the point, I realize that I have started using analogies like that in my life recently, just unique things that everyone understands but no one says out loud, in an almost poetic way because, like you, I really care about what my audience thinks, even if it is just one person at a time.

I realized, while watching that part of the video, that watching RCR has affected my imagination and communication, you and Mr. Reg, but for some reason, you specifically. You know how it goes, you both could say the same thing but the tone pitch and phrasing that you pick just resonates with me like a tuning fork, and seriously has improved my communication.

I’m on the spectrum, and communication is one of the things I really struggled with growing up. Like phantom tears on my cheeks just writing this from how bad it used to feel. Although it’s not like you alone have made it so I can talk like you’re Jesus, but any tool that I can use to better communicate is extremely important to me, and I’d say what I learned from you has had a huge impact even on my career and relationships, because I can even better get my point across in a way that makes you think and feel instead of just process bland, unsalted words.

TY RCR. (Yes that is my car, yes it is perpetually broken.) 😂😂😂

7.3 excursions are the ones people want. As a HUEI powerstroke guy I wish you went more in depth as to why the 6.0 sucks compared to the 7.3 dead simplicity. The 6.0s HPOP is stuffed under the turbo in an oil bath, the high pressure oil system is located on top the injectors above the damn rockers too, the oil cooler is also built into the blocks valley, and once it leaks, it’s making a milkshake. Next find a 7.3 excursion, it’ll be a much more uplifting experience.

the opening sketch smash-cut into the ad is a classic of the genre, but damnit if it isn't a classic for a reason.

Bravo, Roman, Bravo.
