Auliʻi has been a water baby since birth (thanks, mom) and has gone on to portray iconic female heroines who know how to bravely and confidently charter stormy waters. But her latest role takes her to perhaps the roughest waters yet — high school — in the newest adaptation of @meangirls (“Mean Girls”), which is out in theaters today. ⁣

“Fans will notice that Janis’ last name is different in this retelling, and that’s because I’m native Hawaiian. I inputted the name “Janis Imiike” because it means striving for the stars, and I felt like that was important for Janis because she’s not caught up in this hierarchy of high school.
