A test ride and review of the brand new 2022 Yamaha XSR700. Is it better than the standard Yamaha MT-07?
Yamaha have updated the XSR700 AND XSR900 for 2022. Based on the same platform as the standard MT-07 and MT-09, however designed with heritage and retro style motorcycle looks. The MT-07 is one of the best naked motorcycles on the road, how does the new retro style XSR700 compare to is standard version?
With cafe racer, retro, classic design the XSR700 could be the better and more appealing motorcycle of the two.

I got my learners in Australia and walked into the shop to order a Cyan MT07. There was a 2023 version of this X700 in this colourway sitting on the floor and I fell hard for it. Picking it up next week cannot wait. Love the review

Love mine, got it as my first bike last year and couldn't be happier

The 700 is the perfect bike for someone who wants to play with it. Counting the OEM seat I have three seats that can be fitted with the turn of a key having a Yamaha solo saddle and a C-Racer flat track seat/tail. Finish it the way you want.

I've replaced the lollipop tail light with a classic Lucas Brow tail light Chinese rip off, but with LEDs. The headlight on the new one is a bit like what I did with my 2018 model, but I did a 2018 or so XSR900 shell and custom side supports. Eliminated the back section of the rear fender. Graphics have been made to differentiate it from others, as if the previous stuff wasn't enough.

A full Delkevic 18" stainless can exhaust was added to get better tone with minimal increase in volume, comes in around 96 dB at around 5000-6000 rpm, in the high 80s at idle and low rpm.

Got an Ohlins for the rear and a Matris fork kit. Figure make the suspension best as can be and leave the engine stock.

Love what it's turning into... and the way the front tire can tap dance on the pavement when motoring away from a stop.

Love your great review. Have owned an 2016 and now 2022 version of the xsr700. Love your relaxing way of reviewing

Nice review, same colour scheme as the RD50 i had nearly 40 yrs ago. Used to ride it from Yeovil to Weymouth and back every week for my apprenticeship. Sometimes used to take the roads you took in this video just to alleviate the boredom of being stuck at 35 mph max! That colour scheme brings it all back!

have this bike since march, and i love it, i must say that for me it's the gorgeous and best looking bike around... speaking about the speedo, what i did was that i bought a small windshield and adapted it using a Dremel creating the space for the speedo, and i must say it looks pretty neat to me.

I liked your observations, especially defining the "sweet spot " of xsr 700 engine.
I'm in Guatemala, Central America, just replaced factory tires with all terrain 70/30 Continental, excellent traction everywhere.
In spite of short ground clearance is fun to take it backroads or the woods.
Thanks great video, like your relaxing narrative !

The XSR700 is basically a styling canvas...you buy one to build something else out of it, in my case, a replica of Kenny Roberts flattracker replica...
Just bought a new Tracer7, and round the Highland roads, i'm not missing my old Tracer 900, though i have shaved about 15-20kg off of it, fitted the 55mm shorter swingarm(faster turning) and had a full de-cat system/K+N/Air intake scoop from new...so light, nimble and small compared to my old CP3...i wouldn't go back, bigger is not always better!(The XSR700 will get finished after my operation, 115bhp, same as the CP3).

Thank you, I had an MT07 as my first bike, i sold that last year and got a street triple r. I loved the Street triple but honestly....it was just too easy to ride, sounds daft right? For me...the MT07 had so much more character. I've now had to sell my Striple due to finances, really gutted, but in the future i think i'm looking at the XSR 700. I love the anniversary yellow one and i like the retro looking motorcycles. Thanks again.

I like where the clock is on the new model. In front of the handlebar, and it looks good offset. The best-looking bike in the 650/700 class. I'd leave the seat and the rear end alone. Good fuel economy, I've heard.
Great review. You have almost convinced me to buy one. I'm in Thailland, and it would be perfect for these roads. 1990 [Nick J]

Hi, had mine, same bike-n-same colour for 4 weeks now, and it’s an awesome piece of kit 👌. Looks wise, well that’s up to each individual’s preference, me I think it looks awesome 👌. I wasn’t part ex’n my VFR 1200x for it as that’s my long distance bike, no I just added this as a second bikeI. I bought the xsr700 to have some back road fun on and it delivers it in spades, and it’s not even run in yet ( 600 miles ) and as guy who grew up in the 70s n 80s I remember both the white and black colours from Yamaha’s RD serious of the time. Yep, excellent bike from Yamaha 👏

Very well put, thx for the comparison! Love my XSR, especially since it provides more legroom for tall riders 👌

Good review. I have 2021 XSR and that’s the last before they changed. You have to look down a lot to see the lcd screen but I like the asymmetry so not modded it. So I can see why they stuck it out a bit. Just a matter of getting used to it. Or a small mod. Good review 👍

Weird that they're able to make the XSR900 look so good while making the XSR700 look awkward and unfinished. I want the CP2 but the XSR900 just looks sooo much better (other than the seat). Thanks for the review!

Really nice review to watch the day after I bought one. Wish it wasn't 1 degree C and roads covered in salt ( 1st December).

depends on whether the forks have more static sag than the MT07. If they do, it is better. Also, if the fork oil is thick enough so the front end doesn't pogo. The MT07 pogos on the showroom floor.

REALLY like the look of this one buddy 👌 and with the higher seat looks like I might actually fit on it!!

The speedo location is cooky, but otherwise, super cool. I have a ‘93 Guzzi 1000S that I’m considering auctioning off just for this modern classic. That’s saying something! My 1000S was one of the first true retro bikes, and it’s going to be a sad day when I look back after I sell her, so this machine has big shoes to fill.
