Dr Charlie Underwood, lecturer in Palaeontology at Birkbeck, explains that sharks produce huge numbers of teeth during their lifetime, and that they form as though they're on a continuous conveyer belt on the inside on the shark's mouth. This means if a tooth is broken or worn down, it falls out and will be replaced with a new one.
