Quick comparison vid between the 2 cameras. Just like my previous tests, these were all done with the stock settings (ie no custom settings were made). The Garmin retails for $399, the Sony fluctuations between $349 to $399.

The Garmin at 4k doesn't have the option for stabilization, so when the camera is moving, the Sony looks better. (The Garmin does have stabilization option at 2.7k). When the camera is stationary, at least in segment 1:06, the Garmin looks sharper. I chose the Garmin, and when cycling using a chin mount on my full face Giro, I set it at 2.7k. When walking, I set it at 4k, and use my Feiyu WG gimbal, either on a chest mount or on the end of a monopod. I feel that with either the Sony or Garmin, the user will be happy. It really depends on getting out and using the device, and improving one's cinematography. Thanks Halo for the clip.

Hi! What should I choose between the VirbUltra 30 and the Sony X3000 FDR? I don't like the audio from Sony, but I love its low light capabilities and image stabilization. On the other hand the Ultra 30 has better audio, acceptable low light capabilities and acceptable image stabilization. Also the telemetry overlays on the virb 30 look nice :D
In my country the virb ultra 30 is cheaper by 130-140 dolars compared to the sony camera....
what should I choose? I am confused.

Great Video! Thanks for sharing. Based on what I'm seeing in this video the Sony FDR-X3000 wins out. Better video quality, the images appeared sharper (richer), the stabilization was MUCH better thn the Garmin VIRB. In low light the Sony also won out. The only downside to the Sony was the audio. However, for what I want in an action cam (i.e. Snowboarding), I think I would have to go with the Sony. I would overlay the footage with music anyway so not to concerned about the audio. Thanks again!

Picture looks better on the Sony but sounds is better on the ultra 30. What would you say is still a better all around camera?

Sony has higher exposure, but also shows more noise in blacks and shadows

my conclusion :) if you turn only OIS (without active) sharp will be better :). Night video: If you turn ev -1 or more grain will be smaller (i dont test it, i saw only, i will test soon), on virb maybe it's sharper but we don't see much :P still x3000 the best :P

I was looking for alternatives to Sony and gopro, but I can't lie, the Sony is just too Pretty sure that's where my money will be going.

Just ignore the Stop sign why don't you lol j/k

The Sony just makes everything so smooth. Sometimes the roads are just really bumpy but you can't tell from the footage.
