Few month after the annexation of the Sudetenland, Germany mobilized troops on the border of the remains of Czechia. On March 14, the Czechoslovak president, Emil Hácha, went to Berlin to negotiate that.

When meeting Hitler, he immediately launched into a threatening speech against the Czechs and announced that in order to protect the peace of the Reich a protectorate regime must be imposed immediately on what remained of Czechoslovakia.

Hácha was warned that if he did not immediately order his government to refrain from resisting the German army there would be bloodshed that would be attributed to his duty. Goering then threatened that the Luftwaffe would destroy Prague.

Upon hearing this threat, Hácha fainted. Hitler was seized with anxiety lest he be blamed that the president of the was murdered in his office. Hitler's personal doctor was called and injected him with stimulants.
Hácha woke up, and on the phone that the Germans LITERALLY stuck in his hand, he told the Czech cabinet what had happened and asked to surrender.
He then signed an official announcement that "in order to keep the peace in Central Europe and to achieve calming spirits, the fate of the Czech people and country have been safely entrusted to the leader of the German Reich."

This is the rare moment when Poland is one who partitions and not the one who is partitioned.

Fun fact: Adolf Hitler demanded that the Slovakians declare independence and if they didn’t, Hitler would’ve given Miklos Horthy the green light to invade and make all of Slovakia Hungarian again. However since the Slovakians agreed to what Hitler wanted they were protected and the Nazis told the Hungarians not to take anymore land from their new client state

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I saw the partition of Czechoslovakia in Hearts of Iron IV(HoI4) and I only ever remembered hearing about the Munich conference and never knew about all the stuff with Hungary and Carpatho Ukraine etc. This was super well made and I found it intriguing. Thank you.

Could you please do Poland–Czechoslovakia War of 1919, which is a reason Poland took part in 1938 Partitions.

As someone from Carpatho-Ukraine, I am very proud of our two days existence and the fact that we have been the only independent Ukrainian state at that period of time.

O tomto sme sa učili na dejepise. :) Som rád že sa zaoberáš aj malými, málo známymi krajinami sveta. :)

Czechoslovakia: HANG ON, this meeting is about MY territory. Shouldn't I come to the meeting too?
(Silence)
Neville Chamberlain: Aaaaanyway, we're going to give you what you want.
Adolf Hitler: Really?
Neville Chamberlain: Yeah.
Adolf Hitler: Just like that?
Neville Chamberlain: Yep.
Adolf Hitler: What's the catch?
Neville Chamberlain: Just sign this piece of paper promising you won't invade the rest of Czechoslovakia.
Adolf Hitler: Okay.

I knew about Germany annexing Sudetenland, and then most of modern-day Czechia, but I didn’t realise Hungary and Poland were in on it too.

Imagine first living in Czechoslovakia and than in Poland and than in Germany

People often bring up Poland getting invaded, yet fail to mention they also invaded quite a lot of people, which tarnished their international reputation especially with their neighbors.

Slovaks would eventually decide to go their own way after the iron curtain fell. I wonder if the nazi occupation and partition had long term consequences on the mentality of slovaks and Czechs towards the idea of a united Czechoslovakia

From what i learned from my grandmother is that the Czechslovak army was prepared to fight and was already attempting to mobilize over a million men to defend the nation. It was the LON that failed them….

0:17 There is a mistake in the text bc Czechoslovakia never signed the Munich pact only UK France Germany and Italy did

Fact: On March 14, Czechoslovak president Hácha suffered a stroke during his meeting with Hitler in Berlin.
