He could have gone back in the past 500 years - and when people refer to the ancient ones it means people orginally had all elements but then for some reason didn't, until technology etc readvanced and then all the people once again had all elements (aka in the future) . So Its possible that he has gone to the past. (The potion leaked sweated out of his body around the chamber and thats how he was transported into the past.) So in theory he could be in past or the future.
