Is Income Mobility More Important Than Income Equality?

Bob gets upset at the existence rich people, thinking that there is a permanent class of people at the top, and a permanent class at the bottom, but Seamus helps him understand that over time, people are actually constantly moving up and down the income distribution.

Most of us start nearer to the bottom and work our way up as we gain experience and skills.

USA: "The top 1% is just a big rich frat club and you can't get in."

UK: "That's not a class system" *Pulls out a picture of Eton and Oxbridge* "This is a class system."

India: *Laughs in caste system*

I think that income mobility in a capitalist society is the most important thing because if a system facilitates growth, then people will work hard to achieve wealth and status. This leads to more new entrepreneurs trying to come up with creative ideas to satisfy the consumers. A system like this leads to a win for both parties and the main reason why capitalism is so great.

Seeing the debunkers as young metal heads was the best part of the video.

So.... what you are saying is that tracking groups based on economic status without regard to the actual individuals that make up that group leads to misinformation on the status of the individual?

The other misconception people have about the 1% is that they are all multi-millionaire CEO types, if anything those CEOs are the top 1% of the 1% or the 0.01%, the rest of the 1% are the successful entrepreneurs and highly paid employees.

Forgot to mention this bit
"Yet while many Americans will experience some level of affluence during their lives, a much smaller percentage of them will do so for an extended period of time. Although 12 percent of the population will experience a year in which they find themselves in the top 1 percent of the income distribution, a mere 0.6 percent will do so in 10 consecutive years"

Nobody is combining factual data that is presented in a logical and easy to assimilate manner with comedy the way you do. It's an absolutely killer combination and it's devastatingly effective. My mission is to get more people to watch these excellent videos. Thank you.

Income inequality is meaningless if the majority of people are better off.
