I'm not going to lie to you I'm 32 I have no urge to mess with the carburetor not even on motorcycles I live in a high altitude state I drive across town and I have to adjust the carburetor for different altitude there are so many options I highly recommend Holly EFI I've had issues usually it's easily resolved I'm not saying carburetors are the worst thing in the world but I am saying that is 2022 about to be 2023 give me a coyote with a Whipple I appreciate your time in making this and maybe it'll get somebody through but modern engines are easy to work on all you have to do is Chase the wiring

Carburators are really iconic technology. Things of the past(mostly). Nothing like spending an afternoon tweaking screws and listening to the engine to get it right. I was a kid with a '72 Nova, 250 CID straight 6, three on the tree and a single barrel carburator and a distributor cap. Remember twisting the distributor to get the timing right. I knew nothing about what and how I was doing but I got it to run pretty well in the end. And those tires! GR78-14's I think. Had a different scale for tire size unlike today. Loved that car and sure wish I still had it. Now those were great times!

Personally I’d crack open the secondaries using the screw under the base plate before drilling holes in the throttle plates. It isn’t always enough but I still try it first.

If you're constantly taking your fuel bowls off, an 'old-school' tip is to coat the fuel bowl gaskets with Original Chapstick to make the easily removable and reusable.

If you don't crack the set screw in your nasal primer, this is the sound it will make. 🤣

I just adjusted my Holley to where it should be with all the settings and installed 2 steps down on the jets and runs sweet. Most mechanics these days don’t know what a carb is. Do your own research and tune it yourself

Tell people how to set the float level too. Very easy on that carb and very necessary.

And that's why sir I am so glad that you guys are professional mechanics because I wouldn't know what to do even if you showed me!

A vacuum t on the brake booster line let's extra air in for idle instead of drilling holes, and if you use the right kind of valve on the end of the vacuum line, it's adjustable. My demon carb happens to have a built-in air bleed under the air cleaner stud to adjust idle.

ACTUALLY you Are supposed to have clearance between acellerator pump arm and shaft. I think it's. 010". If not you WILL have a Bog on Acceleration. Spoken from experience 😉😉

Drilling holes in the throttle plates is the LAST thing you want to do. Get a 3 way air valve for an aquarium air line. Put it between you upper and lower vacuum ports. Open valve to a good spot to get a good mixture

I miss having my old man around when it came to carbs. He could tune a car with no diagnostic tools. Could rebuild a Holley in no time too. First thing he did to most the cars I brought home, tune the carb and timing and ask me why I loved POS cars, but he did like having a V8 to tinker with.

Im 31yr old, my dad and I started our own repair business and used car dealership. He was known back in the day for building pretty stout engines and passed the knowledge to me. In between my normal repairs, weve got 6 or so customers each summer we build and maintain hotrods for. Not many, if any auto techs i know my age that will come cloae to a carb. I love them!
