2019-20 Capstone: KIDneys

Infants born prematurely or with defects may require kidney support, and due to their size, peritoneal dialysis is the primary solution to supplement the kidneys’ function. Currently, there is only a manual option to support these neonates, therefore KIDneys, a new generation infant peritoneal dialysis device, is automating the fluid exchange process, and with precision and reliability being the primary goals. The device will incorporate two microcontrollers, two motors, and sensors in order to fully automate the system. KIDneys will alleviate the manual labor of the health care professionals by automatically recording and protecting patient data, precise delivery of dialysate, and possess a user friendly that ensure better quality of care.
