White Seabream, young fish, Diplodus sargus

Diplodus sargus, commonly known as the white bream or the common bream, is a species of fish belonging to the family Sparidae. This species is predominantly found in the Mediterranean Sea and the eastern North Atlantic, particularly along the coasts of southern Europe and northern Africa.

The white bream typically has a compressed, oval-shaped body that can reach lengths of up to 50 cm (about 20 inches). It is easily recognizable by its silver coloration adorned with several dark vertical stripes running along its sides. Juvenile fish often display more pronounced stripes, which may fade as they mature.

Diplodus sargus prefers shallow coastal waters, often inhabiting rocky reefs, seagrass beds, and sandy bottoms. It is a social fish, frequently found in small schools. As an omnivore, its diet consists of a variety of food sources, including small crustaceans, mollusks, and plant material such as algae.
