This is timely. Post divorce and after gaining primary custody of my 13 and 12 year old children, I struggle with setting boundaries and enforcing expectations with them at this age. Their older sister walked out of my life and I have fear of losing them as well; this drives me to be lenient and less of a disciplinarian. Often I am taken advantage of then end up frustrated and feel disrespected. If you're reading this, please pray against fear and that the hearts of my children would be drawn to the Father.

A child that does not know the meaning of the word no by the time they are 5 is a lost cause.

I didn't succeed with this with my daughter. She was a handful and I dreaded her becoming a teenager. At 13 she struggled with life at home so my parents took her in. I thought it would take a few weeks for things to settle down. We never could meet her conditions for returning. It is decades since she decided we could not give her life she wanted. The sad thing is she about 10 years ago she also turned her back on the grandparents who took her in.

No it is not the will of the parents. The wife's authority is delegated from the husband. The wife is disciplined by her husband first. She then uses that authority to discipline children. Daughters need to learn to submit to their husbands.
