while laying on your back your coccyx can not move naturally backwards away from the baby's head. upright positions in labour help the baby to go down faster and make room in your birthing canal and your pelvis. to open the end of your birthing canal (using this effect here) you can go down on hands and knees (maybe hands higher than knees), knees hip-wide apart, feet far apart. this position reduces the risk of birthing injuries and allows you to birth self-determined. deep squatting also helps to widen ur pelvis at the end of birth.
it does not matter what is easier for the midwife or the doctor! labour means moving and is kind of like gymnastic. dance your babies into this world! it is YOUR birth. (from a midwife to be)

35 years ago when I was giving birth to my daughter, I had a Jamaican nurse who told me the baby would come easier and faster if I would get in a squatting position.... she was right.

I've had 8 natural births and if I may be honest, this position described in this video is the most straining. The moment u stop pushing( while in this position)the baby's head is sucked back in. Round after round of pushing and nearly bursting blood vessels the baby is making inch by inch progress. You are told repeatedly to push even harder on the next contraction to over power the suction. Eventually the baby will come out, but only after numerous of rounds of pushing against gravity. All this even after curling your pelvis under pushing in the lower location. Ladies I've learned that every birth is not the same, so doctors cannot expect all women to deliver babies in the same way. My advice would be to lay on your side that's most comfortable, lift one leg and curl inwards while giving strong long pushes. That baby will come out a bit faster and easier than this position in this video.

Why did the nurses not know this? My knees were pulled apart as I felt like my body was being torn apart… I didn’t receive any of the treatment I thought that I would. The nurses didn’t help me much or offer advice that actually did anything for me. No one told my husband how to help and he was waiting for my instructions, like I could think clearly enough to ask him to do anything. I just wanted my mother there but the nurses were treating her like crap. I won’t even start about my postnatal care… I never want to do a hospital birth again. I never want to be in a hospital ever again. Now I have to fight for my daughter to not be fucked over by the medical system for at least the next 18 years.

I gave birth on my knees. I was leaning over the back of the hospital bed and I believe this helped me give birth in an hour and a half once I was in active labor. Leave your dignity at home when you go into labor ❤

The best position for births is squatting, but it is easier for nurses and doctors when you lie on your back.

Squatting is how its supposed to be done. Gravity helps. Men invented laying on back.

But yet the hospital tells you to push with your feet in the stirrups and your legs open wide... no wonder we have so many issues afterwards from pushing so hard and making it harder on ourselves and the baby while they are coming out.

For the most part, the best positions for labour and birth are positions where you are utilising gravity. Squatting, kneeling, all fours, leaning over a bed, ball or chair.
I honestly can't believe modern hospital practices haven't caught up to the fact that we know this.
I really get tired of the "lay on your back and feet in stirrups" approach medical professionals have with birth because it's "easier" for them. What matters is what's easier for the WOMAN. You can birth in whatever position you like and if they need to sneak a peak that's what a dam mirror is for that they can use.

If the midwives who helped me on 16 June 2010 knew this secret my boy would've came out alive... He'd be turning 14 years this coming june❤

This music is used in horror stories on another channel (cave diving accidents) so this subconsciously freaked me out.

Yeah, i was trying to sit at the end of the hospital bed to get epidural. But the second I sat up right was the second my son was already coming out so fast

Good to know! I always wondered why being in those stirrups was an uncomfortable position to deliver in
