people misunderstand how far away the moon is from us. If the earth is a basketball, the moon would be a tennis ball that orbits 21 feet away. This asteroid would be a grain of sand. Also, while the math seems pretty daunting, it really isn't. I'm sure scientists know exactly where the asteroid will be every minute of the two months it is near us.

But on a serious note, what sort of affect might it have on earth since the moon affects our tides? Will we see weather changes?

He said if this asteroid hit earth it would be apocalyptic. But at about 11 meters in diameter, it is smaller than the roughly 18m meteor that exploded over Russia in 2013.

That's pretty close to the earth for an asteroid to come... especially given his extraordinarily buoyant and cheerful presentation! Is anyone else now following this story expecting reports of tons of amateur astronomical observers to suddenly announce that the initial and "official" calculations were...off!?!
