RULES
The rules are the same as regular chess except for these changes. For a refresher of those rules, check out this video. The object of the game is to capture all your opponent’s Kings. There is no check or checkmate. During setup, replace each Queen with a King. Pawns may not promote to Queens, but they may promote to a King. Kings may castle in either direction two spaces towards the rook then the rook to the other side, so long as the spaces in between are vacant. You may castle a King ignoring all threats. Kings may move to a threatened space and do not need to move if threatened. The first player to capture all their opponent’s Kings, included all pawns that were promoted to Kings, wins.

I think it would be interesting if you only had to capture one king. You could be threatening 2 kings, none in checkmate, but you can still only save one, resulting in a loss

When your last king is captured, on your next turn, you must promote the pawn to a king to escape defeat

I'm sure someone has come up with this chess variant idea but I had this idea where the queen instead of the king is the "royal piece". That is, the object is to checkmate the queen...the king is treated as a regular piece but has its normal moves (and perhaps would be a "prince (consort)"?

On double queens someone made a joke about calling it lesbian chess so I’m obligated to make one about this being gay chess.

if the kings in this varient can move(but not capture, and not pass threaten space) like a queen, and player must handle checks(unless there's a checkmate on one king, results in a sure capture), it might be better

This is like a smaller version of a now I think discontinued game called MILENNIUM CHESS which was almost twice the size of a regular chess board. That game ALSO had queens but the extra king was considered more valuable than a queen, so sacrificing a queen to get ONE enemy king was worth it.

How about a double queen chess with no king? My idea for that is there are 2 ways to win:

1. Get a pawn to the back rank.
2. Leave opponent with no pawns at all.

When one King has been captured, the remaining one essentially become royal and should be treated as one. The value of a King is equivalent to a knight and shines in the endgame.

Seems like this variant should have it's own sub variant where the goal is to checkmate any one of the kings. Puts a lot more tactical pressure on the defending player. And a fork of both kings wins on the spot.

(You can never be positive you're the first to invent a variant of chess, but...) I made a variant like this called Consul Chess, much like Rome's era where they were ruled by Consuls, essentially two Prime Ministers.

I call this Gay chess, and lesbian chess if it's 2 queens.

If it's gay chess then you gotta protect both kings from checkmate but you get to move 2 times every turn with any piece.

If it's lesbian chess then there is no checkmate. You just gotta kill all the enemy pieces like checkers.

I feel like this might be pretty drawish, given the lack of ability to promote to a queen and the fact that you can't double attack or pin to mate. At least K + K vs K should be a win though.
