We even change articles according to the time of day. In the morning, it’s “der Weizen” and “das Korn”. In the evening, it’s “das Weizen” and “der Korn”.

People who say das Nutella might disagree with those who say die Nutella. But we are united in one thing: Pain and suffering to those who say der Nutella.

Fun Fact.
The reason it's "Das Mädchen" and not "Die Mädchen" is due to the "-chen" part at the end.
It's a way to make words cuter, but automatically changes the article to "das".
Mädchen is the cuter version of the word "Maid" which has "die" as an Article.

Mädchen is actually a diminutive (Verniedlichung) of the word, ,Magd"(="maid"), which has a female article. Diminutives in german always have a neutral article :)

It’s an Italian product and if it could help, we use the feminine article “la Nutella” also because it’s a spreadable cream, so still feminine “una crema spalmabile”

If you ever had wondered why Germans say das Mädchen instead of die, it's because of the cutness form. There are two cutness forms ending in chen or lein and if that is the case the article is allways das. Like Fraulein, Brötchen, Eichhörnchen and so on. So what is the normal form of Mädchen, it's die Maid (maiden), but is an old-fashion word so no one use it anymore. And yes you could do it with der Junge (boy) too it would be das Jüngelchen, but same thing no one use it and even teachers often don't know it.

But if we talk about things the article is always used by the principle of what sound best.

Actually "Das Mädchen" is one of the only things that make sense, as it follows one of the only rules used to apply genders. In German there is the DIminutiv, a form used to create the "cute version" of a word. One way to form it is bei changing the vocals to umlauts and adding a "chen". Therefore the very old German word "Die Maid", meaning a women, became "Das Mädchen" to imply a small women, also known as "girl".

There probably isn't a single family lawyer in Germany, who hasn't had at least one "Die-Oder-Das-Nutella" divorce case in their career. 😂
