Base Jumper's Emergency Landing After Fall

This base jumper was forced to use his reserve parachute after losing his primary chute during a trick that went horribly wrong. Mikel Khalil, 30, was trying to doing a dangerous parachute stunt with his fellow adventure junkie, Jose Kosseifi. On June 18, 2022 the duo attempted a jump from approximately 400 metres high in Lebanon. The trick involved Mikel hanging underneath the glider, but he couldn’t get a clean grip and ended up slipping out of his latch with Jose. After losing his primary parachute, Mikel, from Lebanon, was forced to use his reserve parachute which saved him from a nasty crash landing. Mikel said: “We were trying to do a stunt where I hang underneath the glider and fly around the bay. I couldn’t get a clean grip when I dismounted, and I fell straight down. This was done in a safe environment because the conditions were in our favour and it was done from a paraglider, so there weren’t any obstacles to collide with. People were shocked and they thought I fell to my death, but they didn’t realise I had a reserve parachute on me.”
