Bent Knee is the sort of band that makes you remember you turned down the volume of your headphones watching some other video.

What a beautifully dark song, and such a commanding performance. That led me to play this so many times that I even had time to contemplate the lyrics even though I generally only pay attention to vocals as another musical instrument. I really love how "center of attention" is used as a connector between the verses... it reminds me of how Elvis Costello sometimes came up with clever meters to tie his lyrics together. I also like how "In God We Trust" ironically comes from the piece of paper for which the subject is selling his/her body.

Surprised nobody in the comments is talking about the meaning and composition of this song.

When I first heard the latter half of this song I wasn't paying that much attention to the lyrics and just found it a bit vulgar and uncomfortable to hear, like I couldn't share it with people. I only recently made the connection with "in God we trust"= $ ="piece of paper" ( I'm not American okay). Then it all clicked. It's supposed to be uncomfortable, and much like the subject of the piece, even as the music crests and climaxes, you're uncomfortable and in some sense just waiting for this part to end. Brilliant.

Either that or I'm peeving the band off by calling their music uncomfortable :^)
