The Zoom Q2HD is the first handheld camcorder to offer Mid-Side stereo recording. Mid-Side recording, first introduced by Zoom on the H2n Handy Recorder, is a technique that's been used for many years in film and broadcast, where ambiance is crucial. Mid-Side recording combines a unidirectional Mid mic that captures sound directly in front of you and a bidirectional Side mic that captures sound from your left and right. By increasing or decreasing the level of the Side mic, you can control the width of the stereo field, which gives you enhanced flexibility over your recordings. With its condenser microphones in 30° to 150° Mid-Side stereo configuration, the Q2HD gives you natural depth and accurate stereo imaging. With the Zoom Q2HD, ut's entirely possible to stream your videos through your computer directly to the web. Simply connect your Q2HD to your computer via USB cable (included in the optional APQ-2HD accessory package) and start streaming . The Q2HD's streaming function is compatible with Ustream Producer, Flash Media Live Encoder, Skype and other popular streaming applications, and it works perfectly with premium programs such as Ustream Producer Pro or Studio. Select 1080p or 720p for impressive clarity and detail no matter where or what you're shooting. With a new lens and imaging sensor, the Zoom Q2HD captures exceptionally clean video that is compressed with the industry standard H.264 video codec. It also has a larger aperture than its predecessor, which lets more light into your movies.

Expanding its versatility, the Q2HD also functions as a USB microphone with Mid-Side miking capabilities. Simply choose USB Mic in the unit's MENU and connect your Q2HD to a computer or cpmpatible iPad (using Apple's USB camera connector) to begin recording. Zoom made on-the-go viewing better than ever with the Q2HD. You can easily switch between "Portrait" and "Landscape" playback by pressing and holding the PLAY key. Watch your videos anywhere with its colour LCD screen and built-in reference speaker. The user can choose from three different lighting settings, all of which have been improved from its predecessor. This makes shooting video in challenging lighting conditions easy. For most situations, choosing "Auto" will give you the best and clearest results. There's even an option to select "Concert" mode, which will automatically adjust for rapid changes in stage lights and compensate when the stage goes dark. Alternatively the user can choose "Night" for making the best of the low light conditions.

When your shoot is complete, plug the Q2HD into your Mac or PC via USB cable and download your movies directly to your computer for editing and sharing. In addition, the Q2HD's new FILE Divide and Trim functions let you edit your movies right on the unit. The Q2HD also includes Zoom's "HandyShare" software for editing your movies. And you can now add effects like reverb and normalize the audio for consistent levels, making your movies sound better than ever. Or, bring them into more sophisticated editing software like iMovie or Final Cut Pro for more extensive edits, effects and titles. HandyShare can also be used to upload your videos to YouTube. The Zoom Q2HD is packaged with everything you need to make your movies right out of the box. It includes a 2GB SD card, HandyShare editing software and two AA batteries. All the Audio is straight from the Zoom Q2HD camera, the other camera is just for shots, sounds pretty good doesn't it.

I own two of these plus the succeeding model, the Q3HD which isn't available anymore.  The sound quality is excellent and it has a low-cut filter which will keep the bass and drums from distorting your audio.  The video is acceptable but it is only a 5MP camera so zooming in more than 75% will result in grainy videos and recording in dark concert situations will look fuzzy when zooming.  There is no anti-shake feature which would also help significantly when zooming.  The best use for this unit - IMO, is for recording indoors in normal light at say, band practice or something similar or in a small club where you are close to the audience.  The LCD screen is tiny also (it's slightly bigger on the Q3HD) and this makes it hard to keep framed unless you are constantly looking through it.  Not a bad camera considering what it does and the sound is far superior to most android phones because you can't set the audio level on them.  Get rechargeable batteries also, they will last a lot longer.

Hey, I noticed when you recorded the guy drumming, the video had significantly less blurs than other videos I've watched (I assume the PiP video was from the Q2HD), was that on 1080p, 30fps? Or 60fps? Cos other videos I watched, the hand motions get blurry, I don't know how to describe it but it's like the hands leave a trail behind it, whereas in your video it's not that much. Do let me know! This is a deciding factor haha. Cheers!

I can't get this device to show up on my Mac.  I want to copy audio/vidio files to my hard drive.  Is this doable?  Do I need to download the Webcam driver in order for HandyShare to see it and access the files?
