Periodic Table - 3D print

This periodic table was designed in Tinkercad and consists of over 400 pieces individually printed in PLA on a Polaroid Play Smart; a really cute printer with a 12cm x 12cm print base that's easy to use and maintain.

The frame is a spiral with a gentle 1 in 19 gradient. After assembling the 200+ parts, small gaps were filled with woodfiller and the whole frame was gently sanded. Three coats of polyurethane paint were applied by brush and then a couple of layers of silver paint was sprayed on.

The tiles of each element were printed in 3 colours, each 0.6mm thick to allow light to shine through. The empty areas were then filed with tiles designed to show a key for the coloured groups.

The whole cylinder stands 75 cm tall and is 43cm wide, and weighs about 1.5kg.

I aim to use this as a lampshade!
