To skip the intro and just see the set, skip to 4:01

I absolutely lost it at the chamber music showing off the Box. Well done, sir.

That's a very cool looking box set and the music makes it seem so epic.

Just ordered my set this past weekend. I already have half these films on DVD, but to get them all on Blu-ray, especially in a premium package like this, is too good to pass up! I can't wait for your individual reviews of these films. 😉

Wow! I have seen the advertisement for this and now I am so sure I need to have this. Raise the Red Lantern is my number one favorite out of all their collaboration. To Live is a close second.

Nice one Will. My set just arrived at the weekend but it’s a Christmas gift so I’ve had to reluctantly store it away. ‘To Live’ is one of my favourite films to come out of China so can’t wait to see the transfer.

Also, not a big deal but the ‘mou’ in Zhang Yimou is pronounced mow, as in ‘mow the lawn’. Thought you might want to know!

Gorgeous set! This was one I had to reluctantly pass on, just too many others I had already pre-ordered in the past few months but will look forward to diving into the movies vicariously through your reviews :) great video. And yes, very nice music Mike!

Reminds me of Pedro Almodovar and Penelope Cruz.

Nice packaging reminds me of Criterion boxes. Big fan of the director's martial arts stuff ... havent seen all of these hope they are nice!

Epic video and another phenomenonal release from imprint. Can’t wait for mine to arrive, it’s currently stuck in U.K. customs. You may also want to check out another imprint release called Chinese Box starring Gong Li

I need to get this. Never expected anyone to release such a boxset. Amazing. Ju Dou is one of my faves, so is To Live. Is Red Sorgum in there? I couldn't see on my small phone. Red Sorgum is a very cool arty drama. Very atmospheric. I love it. Problem is with the single Blu-ray they released is they masked it too wide! So tops of heads and feet are cropped off. They masked it at like 2:40:1 aspect but the film was meant to be seen in 1:85:1 aspect I'd say. The earlier dvds were like that. The 2:40:1 aspect ratio matting crops off too much image. Such a shame.

So jealous :P looks incredible! Wish i can afford it alongside the upcoming big boxsets releases lol 😆 managed to get couple of old DVDs for the meantime. Imprint are pricey over here, about £25-30 per edition, but worth it for more "specific" titles lol

Great unboxing and thanks for the shout-out also :D much appreciated 👍

Have a few Imprint titles now, but since I've seen all of these (some theatrically, back in the day), this was an easy pass, particularly politically as China's heavy hand – then as now – is ever present upon all of them (most notably on the distribution history of TO LIVE). Zhang was able to push some envelopes in a crushingly restrictive era, and it's amazing to think that Chinese filmmakers today labour under essentially the same insane rules (despite the increasing amount of deceptively 'commercial' stuff they crank out). That so many of these became arthouse gems speaks to his artistry in the face of being disallowed to openly comment on government policies that created the dreadful lives experienced by so many of his characters.

Oh, and thanks for at least acknowledging the tension between Hong Kong and China. The backlash against China extends to so much of the developed world these days, and I certainly hope it continues – it's refreshing to see countries FINALLY rethinking their China policies in light of the economic and political power we handed them on a silver platter because of out addiction to cheap. Just wish my country was doing it as fast as some of the others. :)
