2. Character backstories

[WARNING: you fr gonna read all this? 💁‍♀️]

Based on the Four Symbols, in order of the vid: Vermillion Bird, Azure Dragon, White Tiger, and Black Tortoise. They’re all a few thousand years old, hence the huge changes. Their immortality and powers are granted by the fragments of an ancient artifact.

Vermillion Bird || (nameless, no fr you could call him anything (respectfully) and he’ll be fine with it), formerly known as Wen ZiMo:

He grew up as the eldest young master of one of the wealthiest families, he lived a carefree life spending his time reading, learning instruments, keeping birds, and hanging out with friends. His father brought in his stepmother and stepbrother (who was barely younger than himself) soon after his mother passed away when he was in his mid teens. At the age of 19, he placed high in the imperial exam which made his father clearly favor him over his stepbrother. His stepmother, fearing their position in the family might not be stable, chose to plan an “accident” while his father was away. After stabbing him and leaving him to perish in the burning family home, he awakened the artifact fragment he never knew he had been carrying this whole time.

Azure Dragon || Xia Zhi:

Born in a middle-lower class family, his family sent him away to a sect/clan (ngl I still dk which to use) to have a better life and education when he was a young child. Under strict teachings and his own talent, he became a prominent disciple in the martial arts world, proficient in swords, knives, and spear. During his mid teens, his sect was wiped out by a stronger sect with connections to the emperor. His master had given his senior brother the treasured artifact fragment and told them to run away just prior to the massacre. His senior brother was killed, but not before he swallowed the artifact and sent a message talisman to Xia Zhi, sending his location and instructions. Xia Zhi digs out the artifact from his senior brother’s stomach as instructed, and it awakens from the favor of the heavens that have recognized the injustice he has faced. The gloomy clouds part for a ray of sunlight to fall on him as he returns to the remains of his sect. He spends several days burying all the hundreds of bodies.

White Tiger || Hu Jun:

In a time where people are prejudiced against hybrids (has both animal and human forms). His family lived a quiet secluded life at the foot of a mountain near a town where they sold their homegrown fruits. After many years of peace, they were sold out by a greedy townsman who gave away their location to hide/skin hunters. Hu Jun was the only one to escape into town to ask for help but none of the townspeople wanted to risk their lives for a species they viewed to be of lesser standing, leaving Jun to be the sole survivor of his family. Relying on his own power, he quickly rose through military ranks, then ultimately becoming the regent in his early twenties. Power hungry, he conquered many lands and treasures, where he found a fragment of a mysterious artifact in a tomb of an ancient emperor.

Black Tortoise || An Lan:

Crown princess of a small country in the north. Her mother passed away when she was very young, so with no one to protect her closely, she fell into palace schemes. Having been fed a slow acting poison since the age of 6, she’s sickly all the time, wearing heavy coats even in the summer. Her health progressively gets worse and it’s estimated she wouldn’t live past the age of 25. In her late teens, the mother of the third prince sent assassins to end her life in a vie for power, but were temporarily blocked by An Lan’s guards. Her soulmate, who was her personal bodyguard and whom she grew up with, sacrificed herself to save An Lan. An Lan didn’t get far before the assassins caught up, she jumped into a freezing lake to die on her own terms, but triggered an ancient artifact.

Fun Fact: the snake she carries is the reincarnation of said dead soulmate, she waited more than 500 years for her soulmate to gain back her human form.

Anyways, they all became rulers of their own countries and united together during their rule to provide an era of peace. They’re retired now tho ofc. Only Jun still works as a CEO of some giant company (he’s a workaholic from trauma, fears being weak) while the others just hang around and ask him for money lol

3. Did tiger's (Jun's) ears and tail get cut off?!
A: No! Ok maybe part of his tail.. But its mostly still there! He just chooses to hide them after what happened to his family.

4. Their skin color change? 🤔

A: No, it was me trying to be extra and add a bit of lighting 😭 you can think of it as a tan or un-tan if you want tho lol

edit: actully, if his mother never accidentally died by his hands when he was in infant, he'd be a lot stronger.
