My great grandpa told me a few stories before he passed. He worked for a slave owner. Being a slave wasn't that bad.
One not everyone could afford a slave. So they were not everywhere like you see in the movies.
Two very few of them were beaten and treated badly. He made a great point here. Humans are smart and they can easily run away especially in those days. And the slaves cooked food and cared for children. Why would you beat someone that you allowed to cook your food and cared for your kids.
Three you have to feed, house and cloth a slave. Yes slaves were not rich but they were taken care of.
The movies you see on TV does not paint the picture right. Yes there was bad slave owners but most were decent to their slaves
