Taylor Baby BT2 Demo - Top 5 Travel Guitars

Spring has sprung, Summer's on it's way and that can only mean festivals, campfires, beaches and barbecues...and with that in mind, in this series we're taking a look at our 5 favourite travel guitars!

Next up we're looking at the guitar that really put the travel guitar category on the map, the Taylor Baby. Released quite a few years ago and pretty much unchanged ever since, the Baby was the first small bodied travel guitar to really gain popularity, and to this day it's still a best-seller.

In this video, we're looking at the BT2, the version with a Mahogany top. Taylor Baby's feature a solid top, 23 3/4" scale length and laminate Sapele back and sides (with an unbraced back). A Sapele neck attaches to the body with two screws through the fingerboard, meaning that there's no need for a neck heel (allowing for easier access to the upper frets) and it can also be easily taken off to make the guitar even smaller for travelling.

Available in acoustic or electro models, it's easy to see why the Taylor Baby BT1(Spruce version) and BT2 are one of the most popular travel guitars out there.

Spectacular review. I love this guitar, and I'm about to buy another one. I don't know why some people out there knock it so hard. Its a travel guitar, it isin't going to give you concert sound. I hitchhike and busk all the time, and I would highly recommend this guitar.

I travel for extended periods of time, and I carry this BT2 Taylor, Mahogany guitar with me. I had installed a Fishman Infinity Matrix pick up, and I travel with a mini VOX amp. The sound is GREAT! But, the tuners are not that good. It goes very flat from one day to another. Not a big deal because I can tune it back, and the sound is wonderful. So, I would highly recommend it for the traveling person. I also owned a Martin Backpacker which was not bad, but the Taylor really takes the prize.

I really hate how they advertise this guitar as a campfire guitar when it can easily beats many of the so-called professional guitars. From a 1-10 rank I give it a 20 to its playability. A 20 to its built quality. 20 to its sound. 20 to its beauty. 20 to its lightness. You get the point.

I tried to just try one today at the guitar store…. Its on layaway while i decide whether to buy it outright or trade my epiphone les paul 🤣

I could kick myself for selling my early model BT2 when it came with a hard case that had "Taylor Guitars" molded into the top of the case. All I see now are the gig bags or aftermarket hard cases.

the more i look at these type of review, the more I think that I made a mistake purchasing the Martin LX1 instead
