Man I absolutely LOVE Holst's planet suite.

It covers such a huge range and he included some amazing practical effects back then (which of course is written into the music via notations). the finale for the Suite is Neptune I believe and it's the most 'mysterious sounding' movement. The ending was actually done by a chorus in a built room with a door and to get the fading effect to happen in concert, they'd slowly close the door to block the chorus's sound (like a volume or gain control).

Gustav was awesome.

I know everyone loves Jupiter and all, but Saturn is my favorite.

All the way up till the last third you hear tons of tri-tones. The entire thing is just building up this strong powerful feeling of death and inevitability.

Then... everything calms. This sense of... acceptance and beauty overtakes the once horror of before. It is so good!

Any other Saturn fans out there?

Love the 'mini series' you keep doing between requests and random songs, something certain to look forward to!

The end of Saturn always gets me to tears through sheer overwhelming beauty.
Even though a single piano cannot hope to achieve the richness of sound of an orchestra, today was not an exception.
Well done.

I have always associated this part with the gradually approaching old age and death. Starting from 0:04 to 4:57, cyclical repetitions of the same ideas bring it closer and closer until a peak of tension occurs at 4:57-6:35, which in my view has always symbolized the death of an old man, summing up the whole life and its end. What happens after that? After all, the subsequent part at 7:07 sounds more hopeful and full of life than everything that came before. Could this be an afterlife? The old man is not so old anymore, he is young again, now in a completely different place, in a new world, in eternal life...

Wonderful work, guys! As always. Can't wait to hear Uranus and Neptune :))

This piece might have some of the craziest rhythm shenanigans in classical music. In particular, near the end, there are two separate 5/4 vs. 3/2 polymeters going on at the same time.

Loving these covers! And I’m unironically excited for Uranus, which in my opinion is criminally underrated (the planet and the piece).

Always found the middle section of Saturn quite terrifying, especially as a kid.

I was actually confused for a second cause there were no comments to scroll through. Didn’t realized the video came out 9 seconds ago

can't wait to hear Uranus and Neptune. Apart from Jupiter, I love the Sorcerer's Apprentive vibe from Uranus and the mysterious aura of Neptune.
