What made me sad the most was that the dog was trying to move it’s head to see the noise but it couldn’t and it just broke my heart.

I admit it is fascinating from a scientific point of view but its chilling to watch.

If it makes you feel better, this experiment went on to actually revive many more dogs who had died. And this was the beginning of what was to become the heart lung machine, something which is saving millions of lives as we speak.

This just kinda makes me realize just how fragile, precious and mechanistic life really is.

The dog just wants to go back to his permanent sleep

The fact they actually did this, and it works, means one day a human head could be transplanted on another body

Kinda sends chills when you realize this dog might have been trying to whine or whimper due to pain but we will never know cause it had no way of breathing.

The brain isn't even dead so it feels everything they do, and it can't even whine or make noise because it has no lungs this shit is horrific

Note: this is a reenactment of the experiment (yes, it did actually happen)
The dog in this video was perfectly fine (though probably drugged a bit) and it’s neck was just sticking through the table. You can notice his head and neck move which if he had no fully intact muscles or joints besides his head and a small bit of his neck, he wouldn’t have the ability to do that. As an example, put your forearm on the table and lift it up. Now, if you had no elbow, you wouldn’t be able to do that. Same principle.

That poor thing looks like it’s in so much pain

This scares me, because the dog knows it died almost like a dream, i think it would feel like waking up from a nap with no dream.

could not imagine the amount of pain that dog experienced in those few hours

They better have given him his last pats before permanently putting him down or so help me.

Don't know how to feel about this really. People used to do this sorta thing to other people in the day and that's how we got to where we're at in medical science. It's crazy man..

Danm this is smart but I feel sad for the dog

I'm conflicted on how to feel about this experiment on one hand it just seems cruel but on the other hand it could have opened up entirely new scientific possibilities

As horrific as this is, it is fascinating that the dog was able to live (albeit shortly) without any of it's internal organs. I would be interested to see how the scientists would have taken this further, although I'm thankful they can't
