This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Amana Academy 1st-8th grade students are challenged this year to redefine the world they live in. The TEDxYouthDay theme for this year is Worlds Imagined. Students will answer the Guiding Question: "What do you want the future to look like?"

Simon believes students should have longer recess and times to be active throughout the day.

Simon link is a 3rd grader at Amana Academy. He likes chocolate, candy, and learning about the history of other cultures. He loves to run and play during recess. Simon believes students should have longer recess and times to be active throughout the day. This idea connects with the Expeditionary Learning Design principle Empathy and Caring, and Responsibility for Learning.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

My hat goes off to this kid, not only did he have the courage to speak in front of an audience, he didn't even have any notecards to aid him in his speech. Not to mention, the raw facts, statistics and sophisticated words he was using was beyond impressive for his age. This kid is going to do something big one

He spoke all the facts without looking at any notecard!!! I particularly loved the way he began his speech and overall the speech was awesome for a kid so small. He rephrased his sentences when he forgot and smiled at the same time, such confidence while other kids at this age get nervous. Brilliant speech:)

Kids doing really well, although messed up a couple time he's young and he was nervous which is normal. I spoke at a funeral on time at the age of 10 and i was nervous, And i had a script to read off of. This kid had to remember his most likely. Really good job :)

This was an impressive presentation by Simon. He uses several forms of rhetoric to deliver an idea that he is very passionate about. Getting the audience involved was a great idea. The delivery from Simon was very convincing. Delivering such a positive message with many great techniques and facts including science, statistics, emotion and confidence!

He made mistakes but he continued and finish his speech. It is already hard enough to be standing up on a stage presenting without any cue cards or paper especially for his age. True respect shows to him and I’m sure he’ll make it big one day!❤
