How KISS made me play guitar. Cold Gin, Rock And Roll All Nite.

Bla, bla, bla about why I started playing guitar. With the intro to Cold Gin and solo for Rock and Roll All Nite. If you notice me making some strange movements while I'm talking they are involuntary and are caused by the meds I take for Parkinson's, they stop the stiffness and tremors but make me dance a little. I'll take the dancing lol. i hope I didn't ramble on too much.

ACE was all about Simplicity & Memorable guitar styles and that's why his LEAD SOLOS will out shine any of those million notes a second !😁🤘

I was 8 when I got the Alive album...Cold Gin was the song that hooked me and turned Ace into my first guitar hero. So simplistic but there was just something about his playing!
On another note, it doesn't matter if you shake and twitch... just keep making these videos.... and we will keep praying for your healing! Just happy to see you on "the Tube"! 🙏🙏🤘🤘

I knew there was a reason I identified with you so much ! For a minute there I thought you were telling MY story ! I always thought that Ace was the B.B. King of Rock 'n' Roll Lead Guitar !

Hey again Mark ;-)

Great was also one of my first inspirations/idols, Scott Gorham being the other - and Those mid to late 70's were special (I'm 60....).
Keep them coming buddy.

Cheers

Seeing Ace on the cover of Alive made me want to play guitar. Great story Mark!

Right there with you!!! Love them or hate them, they spawned many guitarists and rock stars! I was fortunate to see them in the late 70's (Charlotte, NC). My friend and I made it close to the stage on Ace's side. It was so freaking loud, I think my ears were bleeding for a week! It was one helluva experience!
Funny, got to see them again back in 2007 (with Thayer this time) at a work conference (Cisco Networkers). They played the private show with Zepparella, Iron Maidens, and AC/DSHE opening! Took place at the Blenheim Equestrian Facilities in San Juan Capistrano, CA. That was just as fun!!

Same here Mark! Ace is the reason I play. In 6th grade I wanted to start a band, play all KISS songs, and call the band SMOOCH, 😂😂😂. Thanks for all the vids, you're awesome, been watching since the ultra days. Most importantly - I 🙏the parkinson's goes away.

Great story Mark & those riffs are, also. i got to see Kiss live in '75. They played @ Cobo Hall downtown Detroit....it was pretty dang cool! I also seen ELP at the same place in '73, they we're off the charts. Shortly after that show (thanks to Carl Palmer's playing) I went and bought my first drum set (Ludwig 5pc) out of a buy & sell magazine. Keep on Rockin'!

Great story Mark. As much as I enjoy your effortless playing, I'm diggin the story too. Feel free to add all of those you have, at least the ones you can tell😇

Awesome story Mark. I had the classic Ace poster with the tobacco burst les paul in my bedroom as a kid. I wore out the Alive and Double Platinum albums. Definitely was an influence on me picking up guitar.

I just got the same goose bumps you did at the beginning. I should go buy a guitar. :)

Kiss Alive! 1975, and I was 9 years old. It had the same effect on me, but I fixated on Peter Criss, and became a drummer as a result. Kiss was sort of my “Beatles / Ed Sullivan Moment” but 11 years later! 🤟🏼

Even though Bruce Kulick was more technically proficient, I always felt Ace had more style with his Chuck Berry inspired approach to playing. I had the good fortune to see them on the Alive II tour with that massive stage setup. Ahhh yeahhh!!!😎 By the way, great playing as always, Mark!🤟🤟

I totally get it. That tone and Ace’s on Alive was like lightning hitting me. Still a big fan of the early KISS material especially.

Mark, I'll tell you what happened to you! You got Ace Frehley'd! Same with me on the Alive album, I was 15 and just started playing guitar. I would turn my turn table down from 33 to 16 to figure out how Ace was playing those lead riffs! You're right, not the greatest guitarist but what a great style! Ace was a guitar God at that time to me.👍😎
