Introduction to Antenna Design #1 // Terminology

Thanks to Keysight, I'll be doing an introduction to antenna design series with their FieldFox unit. I'll be covering a variety of different antennas and discussing the pro and cons of different designs. In this video, I misspoke and mixed up the halves of the smith chart. The top half is inductive reactance and the bottom half is capacitive reactance.

Here are some things that I like making small antennas with:

Can you use a VNA to measure the output impedance of a transmitter?

hi how did you read the frequency from this graph? For e.g if it crosses the X axis at, l;ets say, 30 ohms, how can we detemine the resonant frequency at that point?

Hey, I have a question re Balun:

I have a Norcal doublet which is essentially a balanced line that is split at the end into two legs a la dipole. My KX3 works far better with this antenna when connected to a 4:1 balun. It sounds like you're saying that coax requires a balun and not balanced line? This is something I never understood about my radio & antenna setup and I was hoping you could clear up my confusion. Thank you.
