It's rather eerie that Carol remembered what the Russian diplomat said to her in this scene. Because in the ending, while everything was back to normal, she questions if she did the right thing to resist the invasion.

To imagine a world where this was not so, where every crisis did not result in new atrocities, where every newspaper is not full of war and violence. Well, this is to imagine a world where human beings cease to be human.... So true it hurts.

This raises an important topic, considering the systemic dilemma in the way America handles societal issues. Kaganovich brings up the argument that America treats their problems with pills to ignore what makes their problems unique and what makes individuals who they are. The invasion itself is a representation of the way America has handled their problems. Carol, as a psychiatrist, is a remediator in this context because she diagnoses Americans and gives them the pills that Kaganovich speaks of. The systemic dilemma that she eventually faces near the end of the movie is a choice between the way of accepting the way that society has chosen to handle its problems, or her way of treating the problems of the world. Kaganovich represents a belief in the individuality of humans, he believes that people hide behind civil identities to pursue individual goals. While he sees that this seems to be the root of societies problems... Kaganovich also acknowledges that this is also what makes humans, well.... human, and no amount of artificial solutions can change what gives individuals their humanity.

“To be honest Ambassador, when someone starts talking to me about the truth, I hear more about what they are telling me about themselves instead of what’s going on in the world.”
I use that line at every boring Dinner party & I either get a drink thrown in my face or a full on table toast. Either way, it makes for a much more memorable evening!😊

"He's Russian, he needs to argue like he needs to breathe" ..
If that doesn't speak of any person objecting to a "I can't breathe" campaign. The respirator stories for one. This film I've not seen but it's chilling how it seems to relate .. to C19 Veronica Cartwright even stared in the remake of Invasion of the body snatchers.
