Absolutely! Still a great option for the price. Been using it as my main home router for the past ~6 year or so and still going strong. Easy to set up the basics and flexible enough to toy with more advanced features like VLANs, dual WAN, etc..

I just wish they were more readily in stock. Would love to pick up a spare at MSRP.

My Favourite is the MikroTik Routerboard hAP ac lite. Brilliant bit of kit with PoE out. 5 ports. And an amazingly fully featured router OS.

I've got the bigger edge router as I wanted to build a WISP at home but never got around to it. Once another real ISP comes to my area I'll probably do it.

The ER-X was my instroduction into advanced home networking. It was a really good little piece of hardware

Sadly it is indeed a low powered box, and it's not good if you've got a 1 gig internet connection

Also Ubiquiti have basically abandoned it in favour of the Unifi stuff. All of the Edgerouter series devices have numbered days

Mikrotik has a box that will do more and supports gigabit speeds over L3 for not much more money and it's not outdated...

I STILL use my Edger outer Lite 3 for my dual wan... I've tried to replace it with more expensive units but I keep coming back to it

Why would you use an ER-X in 2022? The updates are buggy in the 2.0 branch and its cpu is considered slow nowadays if the workload isn't hardware offloaded, like QoS.
Now with RouterOS 7, i'd prefer a hAP ac2 over an ER-X.
Also yes, i do own and use an ER-X as my main router at home since 2017 but i'm itching to switch to something faster.

I would agree that it is still very relevant for a 250Mbit or less WAN connection. Past that point It seemed to not be able to keep up with QoS enabled.

I've been using my Edgerouter XR for almost 10 years! In the same 10 years I've had to replace 3 poe injectors, 2 runs of cable, 1 ups, 2 poe switches, 2 printers, and countless more networked equipment. It's so darn durable that I'm actually annoyed cus I don't have a good excuse to upgrade! 🤣🤣
