My Response to Gary Vee & 'Passive Income is B******t'

Gary Vaynerchuk recently published a podcast episode and video about how passive income is BS. This video is my response.

I love Gary, and he and his work (especially his book, Crush It) have been instrumental in my success as an entrepreneur, and I'm thankful that he has used his giant platform to bring to light what's out there, and what is actually real.

As always, Gary keeps it real, and although we have different styles, you may be surprised about my take on his rant.

The man who calls his phone addiction work!
The man who shames his coworkers because they felt tired after along day of work! (his camera man)
The man who doesn't believe in science as he himself mentioned while pissing off Seth Godin!
The man who almost doesn't give any practical information in his talks .. just passionate swearing!
but there are lots of people who get motivated by someone shouting and swearing .. so.. he gets a pass!

Pat, I started selling shoes online after listening to your podcast on Amazon FBA (the second one). That episode changed my life forever. I felt that I was sleeping on so many opportunities. After listening to that episode, I started my journey of selling shoes online. When I first started my family thought I was crazy, and that I was wasting time. I worked really hard during weekends, and after work hours. As a result, now I'm able to generate a sizable amount of cash by selling shoes online. Its wonderful to wake up in the morning and see that I've sold multiple pairs of shoes. For that, I will ALWAYS thank you. You are a natural teacher/mentor, and will follow you.

I think YouTube is the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Building a business is hard, but taking your time and putting out tons of value for free over YEARS, then gaining momentum, and building scalable digital assets on top of that...that’s really hard. And THEN, if you’ve done a good job, you can get some passive income at the end. Passive Income is definitely not Easy Income.

You come across as very honest, glad you're telling it like it is, most systems I've tried were just multi-level marketing "pyramid" schemes in disguise, always someone promoting their own product within their course trying to get you to recruit more affiliates.

I have followed you for years, Pat. You were always very clear that getting an online business to the point of passive income generation takes a lot of thought, a great idea, followed up by plenty of hard work, time and commitment.
Gary V is clearly saying the same thing. I have tooled around the net and I have seen plenty of people who try to sell plug and play passive income businesses. It doesn’t take long to see they are selling fairy dust. Keep up the great work, Pat!

It makes me happy that this is finally being spoken about more often. I feel like I've been blinded by the 'smoke and mirrors' image of passive income of 'working' on the beach for too many years. More recently as my passive income is finally growing I have a much more realistic idea of how it all works - and it does - with hard work. :)
