The EASIEST WAY to change water on a fish tank

After a year of weekly 5-gal bucket changes on 2-4 tanks, I finally decided to buy one (knowing it would be a problem to connect it to my fancy kitchen spray faucet). 4 weeks of searching, 2 hrs at Lowe's, 1 hr at Home Depot, 3 trips to 1 plumbing store (ordering, picking up & returning part that's too big) and 1 trip to another plumbing store, I now have FOUR brass pieces connecting my faucet to the Python piece. And it kinda fits, barely, wrapped with a washcloth to not spray my kitchen.
Last Sunday's water changes (on 4 tanks) were the easiest I've ever done and I have no regrets.
So, if you have a fancy Moen faucet, either switch it out for a cheap standard faucet or be prepared to start with a plumbing specialty store.

And make sure you watch your curious goldies, so they won't go explore inside your water changing vessels 😅

A couple cautionary notes though: Watch the PRESSURE when you turn on the faucet because I’ve had mine STANDING STRAIGHT UP SPRAYING THE ENTIRE ROOM like a crazed water dragon and had to wrestle it back under control!!! Also, it runs so quietly it’s easy to FORGET you are filling a tank if you are multitasking. You can get an Overflow Alarm which I highly recommend if you have a touch of absent-mindedness/Attention Deficit. 😮

i was gonna buy this at petsmart till i saw $64.99 on the price tag (put it back napoleon! we cant afford the fun pack) is all i could think of... so i just use a water hose i cut down to about 15ft and syphon the water into my shower drain, then i have a 50ft hose outside i use to fill my tanks back up.. only problem is i cant control the water temps but ive figured out a way around that issue

Have to agree. Gave up a 150 g because I just could not stand changing the water the bucket way anymore. Love it so much. I do drain them into buckets though. Great for the yard/garden.

I love my Python. I got mine back in the 90’s and it’s still in great shape!

When using the python water changer, how do you make the tap water safe? I’m assuming the water goes straight from the faucet.

Can i use that product with a bucket of dechlorinated tap water? (I have to treat my tap water first before putting it in my tank)

Wish I could do this but I’ve gotta mix RO in with my tap water ( I don’t have a home RO filtration system so I just have to buy jugs ), so I need to measure it out and all to make sure I mix the right amount. Hopefully in the future though I can use this because this sounds very nice.

Pro tip for 20 gal and below, get yourself a drip acclimation pipe with a regulator on it. As long as you can put the water source higher than the tank, you can slowly fill your shit over a few hours so your fish and shrimp don’t get shocked! Like $5 it’s so worth it.

Python changed my life lol.

Best gift I've ever received.

I personally love using a regular siphon and bucket. These are convenient, but are way too easy to suck up fish, over drain and overfill. Also had the shut off valve near the siphon fail on me before, which wasn’t fun

Do you add water conditioner as it’s filling or wait until the tank is filled

I'm setting up my new 75 gallon as I type, and I would be DEAD without my python hose. I used to actually use 5 gallon buckets to change my 20 and 40 gallon tanks like a loser, lol.

As a new aquarium keeper, whilst doing my research, I heard about the python and I have to say it’s been a lifesaver for me. When my boiler broke and I couldn’t get hot water, using buckets killed me

Nice. Was looking for a simple, similar solution for a friend.

Python revolutionized the aquarium hobby back in the 90s.
