I was born and raised in Chicago but I am a Yoruba at heart. I was reintroduced to the culture a few years ago when I went to Lagos to bury my father... Listening to this song brings me joy! I loved the beats but was connected to the lyrics. I had to watch the Lyrics/English Subtitles to fully understand the song!!! Please keep your soul and stay true to who you are... With that said the beat alone sometimes does remind me of relation between kazimba and capoeira (African and Brazilian gymnastic styles of matial art) they are actually both related as can be seen when you spar in capoeira as the tradition is to pay homage to the instruments that sound very similar to the ones used in the song just like original Africans respected the drum, capoeira was a style developed from kazimba because slave masters and plantation owners would have their guard down when our ancestors hands or both hands and feet were shackled plus we could practice in plain sight and they would think we are just playing music and dancing with agility for their entertainment or ours, hearing the translation and from what I've heard from other people the song is steeped in those elements that helped us survive hope, humility and prayer even when they tried to change our faith and spirt

It just shows no matter where or when you oppress black people we persevere as we have been for hundreds of years now under attack 💯
