Janet Louise Yellen (born August 13, 1946) is an American economist serving as the 78th and current United States secretary of the treasury. Previously, she was the 15th chair of the Federal Reserve from 2014 to 2018. She is the first woman to hold either role. She is a professor emerita at Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. She was also the vice-chair of the Federal Reserve from 2010 to 2014.

She was confirmed by the Senate in a vote of 84 to 15 on Monday evening.
