Welcome to a Learning how to Grow food on an Allotment Plot in the UK video. My name is Graeme and I started Allotment Gardening in Jan 2022 as a complete beginner on my first ever allotment plot, in the County of Warwickshire in the UK (That’s Zone 7). These are my allotment diaries.

Knowing nothing about planning, building and maintaining a successful allotment plot, these vlogs follow my journey as I have fun, learn how to grow food and share all the successes and failures (and there’s many) along the way.

What's my mission? (updated 2023)
In truth, I started this channel for friends and family to have a laugh at what I was doing as I enjoy making videos in my spare time, this channel has grown way beyond my humble expectations over time, which is something I am very proud of, I continue to simply have fun growing food, making creative content, and if inspire anyone to have a go at growing food, the results can be so rewarding. It’s a wonderful journey like no other!

Why would you want to subscribe to Where Graeme Grows? (It is free by the way)
Believe me, if I can grow anything that resembles edible food then anyone can do it. I’m generally armed with enthusiasm rather than gardening knowledge, but overtime it’s impossible not to learn.

What to do next….

as a no-digger, I rarely use my gorgeous British-made fork but I still revere it. You're a lucky duck with that extra plot.

Hello Graeme! New plot looks lovely! Hope your dad gets better soon, artichokes are nice roasted, they look like they have blackfly, so spray with soapy water, and you could plant a few cauliflowers or cabbages, mine are going out this week. Have fun!

You can buy ladybugs and they eat aphids. Those artichokes are amazing! I’ve only ever eaten them in dip, but I would definitely be looking up some recipes.

Nice one.happy days. you can get the plot ready for your dad and hope he recovers soon so he can enjoy it. Never grown chard or artichoke either but they do look stunning even if not eaten.

Rubarb love the shade as do some brassica's, black fly just wash off with washing up liquid and water . looks a great plot to take over congrats 👌

You lucky so and so 😜 Treat the chard just like spinach, I use baby leaves in salads and wilt larger leaves in a pan with some butter, nom nom nom. Not a blinking clue about artichokes sorry, far too posh for me 🤣🤣🤣 The ants look like they are farming aphids so maybe just a jet of water will get rid of them like my runner beans. I can see you are going to have fun with it all and that is what counts, enjoy 🤗

How exciting! Artichokes, you can spay or soak off aphids. I boil or steam them until leaves pull off easily. I like to dip them in mayonnaise and just scrape the heart end with my teeth. Some people like melted butter.
Chard I like to add to soups and stews, not a fan of it raw.

chard is delicious get a bit of oil or butter add a bit of onion garlic chop some of those tomatoes into it then add your chard let it wilt and it will be yum yum yum

Brassica in a shady bed. Bit of lime sprinkled into planting holes and wrap small piece of foil around base of stem then firm into hole. If there's club root I would do that to be cautious

Artichoke flowers are stunning and you can grow them just for that reason. Looks like aphids or black fly and ants harvest the nectar the aphids give off. 😂 you’ll have loads of volunteer tomatoes 🍅 next year but your very lucky 🎉. If you harvest leaves from the chard it will produce more. Have a great week 🐝 safe and keep smiling
