California's swarm of potholes will continue to grow

Weather we have not seen in decades, even including  the big rains of 2015, has taken a heavy toll on roads, most notably potholes and sinkholes. A Caltrans regional spokesman said in 2022, 209 potholes were filled. This year, they're already working on 400 different locations where potholes have been reported.

what does he mean "we ignored funding the roads" what in the ever living hell does all those gas taxes go? You know the ones that are larger than any other damn state in the country? And no this isn't a new thing either gas taxes have ALWAYS been high, that money is supposed to go to roads, which senators and congressmen have siphoned it off for pet projects?

South Lake Tahoe is a pure example of miserable roads. infrastructure is $hit, no street lights, no sidewalks, no proper drainage, electricity system is fked up, no good phone signal, post office sometimes is delivering if there is no snow storm. lack of shops to get basic things. internet is gone with the power outages. what a miserable place. South Tahoe has craters, not potholes

I did not get it….so the gas tax money, which supposed to cover road/freeway repairs, was deferred?! And who is responsible for that? Could you please expose a hero?

What a load of BS! They should have been out there well in advance of the coming rains, sealing cracks and so forth. Plus watching caltrans workers work in slow motion while their buddies stand around watching doesn't help either. And how about coming up with some better/faster methods to repair problem areas? Caltrans is a pathetic (typical) state government agency. And for CA: highest gas taxes in country, high bridge tolls, high income taxes, high sales taxes, high vehicle registration, etc. Where is all the money going?!

Has anyone here driven on 19th avenue (San Francisco) recently? Oh my goodness.
Just seems like this is California, in a nutshell. Way more concerned about "race" and "gender" rather than solid basics. Good job on this reporter calling out both the voters and the politicians' decisions on where to put your tax dollars.
