Free radicals are species (atoms or groups of atoms) with an unpaired electron. Free radicals are very reactive because of this unpaired electron.
Homolytic fission is when a covalent bond breaks by splitting the shared pair of electrons between two products (producing free radicals).
Three steps of free radical substitution mechanism:
1. Initiation
2. Propagation
3. Termination
