NOTE: As much as we want to fully document the building of this fishing boat, the owner has refused us access the following week we visited them. They explained their reasons and we respect their decision. However, they will allow us to take videos at the launching of their boat.
Fishing is the primary means of livelihood in the Municipality of Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro, Philippines. It's no wonder they build fishing boats as big as this one. Locally, boats of this size are called 'basnigan'.
It's still in the building process, but we have asked permission from the boat owner to start documenting it until its first voyage. And we just started with this video.
The fishing boat is owned by Mr. Maton Enriquez. He is a native of Oriental Mindoro but has moved and lived in Occidental Mindoro since the 1970s.
