50lbs MONSTER fossil crab prep with commentary - 208 hours - 12 million year old giganteus crab

A huge number of people have been asking questions about this fossil crab and wanted me to do a commentary on the prep, I hope this answers some of the questions!

It started off at 50lbs (23kg) and ended up weighing about 17lbs (8 kg) in the end.

The crab species is an extinct Tumidocarcinus giganteus crab which used to live in deep water off the coast of New Zealand when the water was quite a bit warmer than it is today.

That crab would've made huge crabby patties!

Wow Morne, that was fantastic.
The calm explanation and music was mesmerizing.while watching was hypnotic.
You have the patience of a rock man. 200 hours of hunching over working must be backbreaking but the result is worth every second.
Awesome fossil.

Thanks for watching everyone, I really hope you enjoyed it. It would really help me out if you liked the video and subscribed to the channel 😁

I recently found a rock with HUGE teeth in it, I hope to have the video done later this week 😀

That was one of the most lovely videos I've ever seen. One: that's a big crab. Two: you really love what you're doing and it shows.

Brilliant commentary. This was an amazing feat, to release the crab from the concretion. Appreciate that you spent the time to video the process and give us the insight of your process. I have so much respect for your artistry and devotion to your knowledge, work, and craft... especially 200+ hours. Magnificent!

Amazing how much patience you have! It appears miraculously for us, but you spend days with not a whole lot to show for it! Fantastic video! Thank you so much!

It must feel so fulfilling to know that 12 million years passed just for you to be the one to finally reveal the product of all that time. I mean, humans weren’t even close to having evolved when that crab was alive, and now all the day down the line and millions of generations later, out of the people you’re the one who gets to expose that crab to light again! I just think that’s so cool to think about.

It is fascinating to see how this crab is finally freed from its stone prison after 12 million years and can tell us its story.
