Advocacy Planning Theory - Radical Planning 101

Part three of the theory series will explore Advocacy Planning Theory. This theory has had a lasting impact on the profession, but, in my opinion, is overly simplified. Where many people seem to think that advocacy planning is exclusively employed to benefit the oppressed, the theory actually sought to make planning inclusive of all values and points of view - even those of the oppressor.

Michael Brooks - "Planning Theory for Practitioners.* Chicago: American Planning Association, 2002.

I had been looking forward to this video. As someone without a planning background, I appreciate the insight and receiving the knowledge from a leftist perspective.

There's a few good linkages here, as far as I can see, between the Advocacy Planning Theory, and Robin Hanhel's classic texts on participatory economics/participatory planning.

There's some interesting lit on this from what I know (as far as how some of this could work) by Michael Hardt, his book "Assembly." There's also, in movement politics, an important distinction between the importance of general assemblies in generating consensus, and other methods of decision-making which are still decentralized but built moderately on a representative model (but through citizens' councils).

This is REALLY good man.
