In this video I pair a modern camera with a vintage lens that was made for film cameras. The Helios 44-2 is a USSR made lens from the 1970s. It has very distinct characteristics that you can see in this video.

There is a formula for Helios 44-2 to get swirls wide open. ( Model 1.5 - 2.5 meters from camera, and lit background 5 to 10 meters behind model. If the background is too far from model, there will be no swirls. Its a magical recipe, as is the lens ) The easiest way to get swirls every time is to look for lit background like leaves of a tree or lights, position your model 5 to 10 meter from it, take few steps back say, 2 meters and shoot wide open.

Wow that music just sounds like an acid trip. I can’t even concentrate on the story because all I see is a kaleidoscope in my brain

Great video. How would you get the camera to communicate with vintage lenses for the manual focus features to work?

been waiting for a quality video with the helios+zf combo! quick question though: is your helios aperture ring reversed?

I've got what I think is a rereleased 58/2 helios lens. It gets swirly in the right conditions I haven't shot it on the ZF much. I do use the TZM02 a lot for some m-mount lenses and it's fun to use these really great MF lenses and get to let the ZF just handle focus.
