Convoke used to be a cost reducer which is calculated before costs are paid, so under the old rules for it (pre-m15) you could, say, tap a wild cantor and sacrifice it to double dip for a chord of calling. They changed it so it's now a way to pay a cost so you can't do that any more.

Props to your opponent for being a good sport. Don't see those too terribly often on MTGO.

no you cannot tap and sac for chord. the convoke sac question came up a lot during MM2 limited

All costs are paid at the same time, so it is not within the rules to both tap for convoke and sac a scion/spawn for mana.

What were they referencing with the Slack-jawed traitor thing?

I don't like the line they took at 3.47: why spend mana on reequipping the bonesaw and on activating the menace guy? They could just have cast Swarm Surge and attacked. Their opponent had no favorable blocks, and had he double-blocked any creature it would have traded for the Pathwarden. Had the opponent double blocked the Shrieker (very likely since it was a 7/2), they could have dealt 4 to the Pathwarden, 3 to the Mantis and then cast Oath to finish it off and putting their opponent to 5. Had the opponent double-blocked one of the two other guys, they could have pumped the Shrieker, dealing 11 and having the Shrieker for the following turn. Not that it mattered much, but it didn't look well-thought-out.

I saw that Flying Corpse Technique draft while I was backpacking in Denmark, still have the screenshot of Graham and James' faces the moment they put Flying Crane Technique on the stack saved to my desktop. In the same manner as casting Bone Saw sends a message, Graham and James swung in with a 0 power Bloodfire Mentor in addition to 5 zombies and Abomination of Gudul. Cracks me up every time.
