You touched on the topic of selection in this podcast. 90% of selection podcasts use the Selection Brush Tool and then Refine. The result is not always successful (halo around the selection, inaccurate selections). It stands out when the background is distinct, selection features on a differently colored object. I don't know what to make of this, except that there is a very low level of tutorials when it comes to selection at Affinity Photo. With a solid background sufficient: 1st step: Select > Select Sampled Color / 2nd step: Invert pixel selection / 3rd step: Refine. Also, no one uses channels to create selections (which were often used to make selections in PS). Is this a weakness of Affinity. Maybe some conclusions and comments.

I have a question about masking and drop shadows.
For the past 20 years I’ve been outlining the object, dropping the background, and adding a fake shadow.
Recently I’ve been searching better ways and maintain the natural shadow all the while removing the background.

IE: A bottle shot on a white background.

When I place the image over a white background and apply MULTIPLY the results look great. However, is there a way to get this same result on a colored background ?
When I do the above with the MULTIPLY on the image over a colored background, the subject changes color.
Thanks

Thanks for the live stream. Even though I know a lot of things now, there are always techniques that I have forgotten or perhaps simply didn't understand properly, which are explained.

I've had a long break from LUTs and have now discovered them again. I have no problem working with them and no problem creating them either. But I haven't figured out how exactly they work. Even the name "Look-Up Table" makes no sense to me. Maybe that would also be a topic.
