Since this is one of those politically-sourced (as in from the political system, specifically the U.S. government) but not primarily politically-motivated topics, please keep any discussions focused on that intersection between technology and politics and the specifics of either-or or both at once, or on the video itself (for anything in any manner, you can feel free to critique or even shitpost about it).

Anything off-topic politically is better suited for other videos / forums / avenues / places in general - this is, primarily, a programming shitpost video.

Everyone's talking about Rust here, but Ada was designed for this express purpose

At the end of the report there is a table of memory safe languages they seem to approve of. Given what they are going for in the rest of the report, it seems to me that Rust and maybe Go are going to be the best options overall. The problem is, most large companies that they are trying to talk to with this report won't upend their codebase if they aren't already on one of these languages. There are also old versions/ways to avoid memory safety that have wormed their way into applications that these large companies are unlikely to fix.

Saying "who watches the watchmen" or "who are the experts that determine whether or not these experts know what they're talking about and can solve these problems without profit skimming" feels like the railroads battle in the 1860s between Thomas Durant and Charles Crocker.

This is gonna be weird replacing all that old software with not-well-paid engineers just to say "we did it, we wrote all the things in rust!" 😢

I'm sure it has nothing to do with particular interests in creating a software monopoly for their selected associates.

The White House does not have the domain specific knowledge to be making these kinds of declarations. Laissez faire works. Central control does not. We had this battle in the last century. The countries with less central control and more freedom won, handily. It wasn't even close. But there are people who just love power so much they can't help themselves. They have to try to use their super intelligent minds to get their hands in every pie.
